| Philanthropy Breakfast Talk with Jet

Held on 30 July at Nexus at University
Hall, the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and
Philanthropy and UBS hosted the NUS Business School –
UBS Philanthropy Breakfast Talk by Mr Jet Li, an
international martial arts celebrity and founder of The
One Foundation.
Deeply committed to his philanthropic
work, Mr Li shared insights on how he started to embark
on volunteer work, and his mission for The One
Foundation, an international non-profit organization
established in April 2007. The talk was well-attended by
business leaders, senior managers and alumni of the

| Raising
Funds for Needy Students |

|
Jointly-organized by NUS Business School,
Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore and Singapore
Cultural Studies Society, and supported by NUS Business School
Mandarin Alumni, the Peh Chin Hua Charity Art Exhibition took
place over three days. President of the Republic of Singapore
and NUS Chancellor, His Excellency S R Nathan graced the
occasion as the guest-of-honour.
Mr Peh Chin Hua, former Member of Parliament
for Jalan Besar GRC and an alumnus of Asia Pacific Executive
MBA (Chinese) 2002, initiated this fundraising event to garner
support for donations towards the School's bursary funds.

Professor Bernard Yeung and Mr Peh Chin Hua who
initiated the charity art exhibition to raise funds for
needy business undergraduates.

| A total of $440,000 was raised to
support 170 more business undergraduates with a $2,500 bursary
fund each. In appreciation of the donors, Mr Peh created
personalised paintings with special inscriptions for them. NUS
President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan and NUS Business School Dean
and Stephen Riady Distinguished Professor Bernard Yeung also
presented plaques of appreciation to the donors. |

| Gift Donation of $1 million to the School
|

|
NUS Business School has received
another gift of $1 million from Dr Tahir, Chairman of
the Mayapada Group in Indonesia and Vice-President of
the Indonesian Chinese Chamber of Commerce. It will be
used to set up the Tahir Indonesian Scholarship
and the Tahir Student Exchange Award at
NUS Business School, to support financially-needy
business undergraduates to pursue higher education.
An alumnus of NUS, Dr Tahir is a
strong advocate of education and has consistently given
his support to this cause. His first gift to the School
was made in 2006 to set up an endowed Tahir
Financial Scholarship for the same purpose. |

Third
Singapore International Conference on Finance |

| Jointly organized by Department of
Finance and the Saw Centre for Financial Studies, the
Third Singapore International Conference on Finance
was held at the NUSS Guild Hall from 14 to 15 July.
A total of 120 participants with research interests in
the fields of banking, finance, economics and risk
management from local and overseas universities attended
the conference. |

The keynote speaker was Prof Sheridan
Titman, who holds the position of Walter W. McAllister
Centennial Chair in Financial Services, Department of Finance,
University of Texas, Austin. He presented the value of clean
energy business ideas using a real options theory and an
innovative venture capitalism concept.
Financial experts from leading academic
institutions also shared new ideas and findings. Coupled with
rigorous discussion, this conference provided a great
opportunity for stimulating the exchange of ideas and
knowledge. |

| As part of a series of breakfast
talks aimed at engaging the senior business community and
bringing relevant business knowledge to business
professionals, Professor Bernard Yeung, Dean and Stephen Riady
Distinguished Professor, spoke to an exclusive group of CEOs,
leaders and senior managers on The Financial Crisis: The Asia
Factor and the China-Led Recovery at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Prof Yeung delivered an insightful presentation on
the current financial crisis, focusing on the global
recovery that is being led by China. He also elaborated
on the origins of the crisis, the current issues of the
day and the upcoming scenarios for the China-led
recovery. The talk was timely for the participants, many
of whom were from the banking and finance industry or
whose positions required them to make strategic
decisions with financial implications.

| A Warm
Welcome for Students of CEMS Master’s in International
Management |
| |
|
As the first and only university in Asia to
be a full CEMS Academic Member in 2008, NUS Business School
extended a warm welcome to its 26 CEMS Master’s in
International Management (MIM) students from over 19
nationalities as they started their first semester here.
Under this programme, business students can
obtain 3 degrees: an honours degree; a Master of Science in
Management at NUS and a CEMS Master’s in International
Management, all within 5˝ years. Students under this programme
will also experience cross-cultural exchange in 2 different
countries for 2 semesters.
One recent graduate of this programme is Ms
June Zhu Yuan who spent two semesters in HEC Paris in France
as well as the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
"The CEMS MIM programme is truly unique,
being equipped with an exchange programme which has dedicated
resources from all the member schools and corporate partners
to deliver the best curriculum and support to its students,"
commented June. |

| Commencement 2009 – Celebrating Excellence
|

|
Close to 900 students of the School celebrated their
graduation at Commencement 2009 on 12 July. Among the
graduates was our inaugural batch of 45 Accountancy students,
who have secured jobs even before they received their scrolls.
Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Deputy Chairman of our Management Advisory
Board and CEO of the Singapore Exchange and Mrs Lim Hwee Hua,
Second Minister for Finance and Transport graced the
ceremonies and gave speeches.
The celebrations ended with Commencement Dinner
that night at Swissotel The Stamford, where graduates,
faculty, alumni and staff gathered to mark this joyous
occasion. |

Asia-Pacific Executive MBA
Industry Visit to DHL, Shanghai |
| |
|
On 14 July, 40 participants from the 17th
Intake of the Asia-Pacific Executive MBA had the honour to
visit DHL Supply Chain's flagship Distribution Centre in
Shanghai as part of the Logistics and Operations Management
module.
At the facility, the participants were given
the opportunity to interact with the senior management team
and gained much insight into the time-sensitive nature of the
business and its operations. We also had the privilege to tour
the Distribution Centre, which has state-of-the-art equipment
and systems, bringing the relationship between NUS Business
School and DHL Supply Chain China to a higher level.

| CIMA Education Carnival
Day |

| The Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants (CIMA) held its education carnival day at the Shaw
Foundation Alumni House on 15 July with interactive talks,
seminars and workshops. Students and faculty also met up with
Prof Michael Bromwich, CIMA professor of accounting and
financial management. |

part in the Singapore Final.

Four teams chosen to take part in the
Singapore final experienced what it is like to be a chartered
management accountant. They presented their findings in a
competition for the opportunity to represent NUS and Singapore
in the global finals.
Students Chan Fun Ruey, Chia Xiao Feng,
Zhang Jiaqi and Vincent Low Kah Kee from Aegis Consulting
emerged as Champions and will take part in the Global Business
Challenge on 21 August this year. |

| Business Advisors Programme Launched by
NUS Business School Alumni Association |
| |
|
The NUS Business School Alumni Association
launched a new National University of Singapore-Singapore
Business Federation Business Advisors Programme (NUS-SBF BAP)
on 31 July to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tap
into the expertise of professionals, managers, executives and
technicians (PMETs) as Business Advisors to build their
capabilities for growth.
The programme will match and deploy NUS
alumni who are PMETs to SMEs for short-term consulting
assignments averaging six months, capitalizing on the
expertise, experience and market knowledge of the PMETs to
help SMEs in their business strategies and operations.
Serving as a receptacle for SME projects and
deploying business advisors, NUS Business School Alumni
Association will screen potential business advisors and match
them to various SMEs while providing frameworks for project
scoping, costing, matching and review. To ensure that all
participants will be more than adequately prepared, NUS
Business School will also tap on its faculty members and
volunteer alumni mentors to provide advice to the
participants. |

| Forum on Human Capital
Insights |

Organised by NUS Business School, NUS
Business School Alumni Association and Kelly Services, this
breakfast panel discussion on 8 July attracted 130 senior
management participants. The impressive cross-discipline panel
comprised Professor Richard Arvey, Head of Management and
Organization Department at NUS Business School; Mr Pratap
Nambia, founder and CEO of Thought Perfect, and
Executive-in-Residence at NUS Business School; Mr Howie Lau
(BBA 1993), General Manager and Executive Director, Lenovo
ASEAN/Korea; and Mr Carl Camden, Global CEO and President of
Kelly Services Inc.
The event marked the successful inaugural
partnership between the three organizers. It was also timely,
allowing alumni to learn from global CEOs about future trends
in Asia Pacific as the region continues to increase in
prominence on the world stage. |

On 17 July, the KL Alumni Chapter and
Sunway University College organized a forum where Prof
Lim Chin, Dept of Business Policy, spoke on The
Global Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Emerging
Asia.
More than 130 people attended the
forum, after which distinguished guests and alumni were
invited for dinner at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa.
During the dinner, the KL Alumni Chapter office bearers
were officially appointed and there were opportunities
for them to interact and network with each other.

China Alumni Network |
| |
|
On 4 July, the North China Alumni Network
organized its first forum on Insights on SOE Off-shore
Expansion from the Failure of China Aviation Oil . The
new Executive Committee was announced during the event, with
Mr Jia Chang Bin, Vice President of China Aviation Supplies
Holding Company, being appointed as the new Chairman.

| Mr Jia was also the keynote speaker
at the forum and discussed issues on corporate governance,
mergers and acquisitions, investments and risk managements,
and the overseas expansion of Chinese enterprises. The event
not only offered a networking platform for the alumni, but
also presented an in-depth analysis of the difficulties and
concerns involved in the process of international expansion.
